WCHS Selects Dexter Wilson to Lead Commander Baseball Program

(SPRINGFIELD, Ky.) – Washington County High School has hired Dexter Wilson as the new head coach of the Commander Baseball team. Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Wilson has lived in Kentucky for 11 years. He is a graduate of Southwest High School, and while in high school, earned all-district honors as a first baseman during his sophomore and junior years. After graduating, he walked on at Western Texas College as an outfielder for his freshman season, hitting .400 and earning a scholarship for his sophomore year. As a sophomore, he played in 51 games, hit .301, and received conference honorable mention honors. He then transferred to the University of the Cumberlands, where he was a member of the team that won the Mid-South Conference tournament in 2017.

Following his collegiate career, Wilson began coaching at South Laurel Middle School, where he helped the Cardinals win their conference tournament during his two-year tenure. He was then promoted to the high school level, serving as the hitting coach and working with the outfielders. In 2026, his outfielders recorded 176 putouts, maintained a 930 fielding percentage, and committed only 14 errors across 36 games. Offensively, the Cardinals posted a .319 batting average. Wilson helped the team amass a record of 65-34 during his tenure as an assistant coach. Outside of baseball, Wilson enjoys going to the gym, traveling, attempting to play basketball, playing video games, and reading. In his free time, he also enjoys giving hitting lessons and attending his players' travel and Little League games.
